Learn

We want all students to have the full experience, regardless of household contribution. If you need financial assistance, please email Dr. Tuck for our confidential support process.

  • We help our students engage as a community through service events, such as food and clothing drives.

  • We work to promote and help coordinate sustainable practices at SRS, including reduction of waste in classroom, cafeteria, and school-wide events and focusing on effective recycling.

  • We help to keep SRS beautiful and care for Sparrow House, our outdoor classroom created as a gift for a beloved SRS Principal Sandy Sparrow.

  • Each year first and second-grade students explore an Asian country. Students travel to all ten primary classrooms, where they participate in interactive activities that teach them about the country’s culture, including language, literature, customs and crafts.

Asia Week 2024 focused on Japan and was kicked off with a taiko drumming performance featuring eight drummers from Swarthmore College. The week will end with a food tasting featuring Japanese food.

  • Third graders enjoy a month long artist in residence with Jeannine Osayande & Dunya Performing Arts Company.

The month long study of elements of various West African and Brazilian drum, dance and masquerade traditions culminates in a community performance where each classroom performs a different dance.

This integrated multicultural experience encourages students to think critically about their experience in society.

  • The 5th Grade Art Project is a long embraced school community tradition and a rite of passage. Each year, a visiting artist works with the 5th grade to create an art installation that the students leave as their legacy gift to SRS. The students learn about aesthetic vision, public art and the importance of working with a community in a collaborative way.

We also maintain SRS’s extensive permanent art collection through cataloguing, maintenance and restoration.
